Best Dining in Clermont County- #1 Copper Blue
After six weeks of counting down the Best Dining in Clermont County, I am happy to announce that your number one ranked restaurant in Clermont County is Copper Blue. Copper Blue is “Grub Shack” where families and friends can gather and enjoy a delicious meal in a casual and comfortable setting. Copper Blue is owned and operated by a couple, Margo and Tim and together they have been “playing restaurant” in Copper Blue for nearly seven years. Here is their story- Margo and Tim met in 1998 while both were managers for a large national restaurant company. They both decided to take a chance on moving to NW Ohio and opening a new location for the company. The opening was an overwhelming success and their business relationship was solidifying. As the mutual respect for each other’s ability to “play restaurant” at a high level grew, they began to learn more about each other as people. They discovered that the values and principles that allowed them to be successful in business together were the same principles they were looking to experience in their personal lives. Talk about a cool story, huh? Everyone loves a restaurant love story, am I right?
Cooper Blue represents the places and times where they each discovered their passion for food and hospitality. Tim’s memories of picking summer berries and making jams and jellies and learning the traditional dishes of his Grandparents’ home in the Copper Country of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, were his first steps in developing his passion for food. Margo’s childhood experiences were those of Granny’s bountiful vegetable garden, homemade sweet tea, cornbread and the soul satisfying comfort of a family get-together in the hills of Kentucky, the Bluegrass state. Copper Blue is a melding of Margo and Tim’s backgrounds and experience to create what you now experience today in Copper Blue.
Copper Blue has an entire menu of food made from scratch, and a wide variety too, enough to please everyone in the family. They joke that they are even crazy enough to make their own hand cut steak fries. (Which are delicious, by the way) They take an immense amount of pride in serving their customers a scratch-made meal. They source the best possible ingredients, serve fresh, never frozen, steaks, burgers, chicken, salmon and fish of the day. They even make all of their soups, sauces and dressings in house. I mean, what more could you ask for?
When trying to select your meal you are going to be overwhelmed with the amount of good and quality choices to choose from. You can always start your meal off with their popular appetizers including their Spicy Chicken Quesadilla, BBQ Cajun Shrimp or a fan favorite, Black Bean Dip. You then have the option of choosing “something with your hands,” which includes Fish Tacos, Turkey BLT and my personal favorite, Granny Jack’s Grilled Cheese, which is loaded with cheese, jalapeno bacon, avocado, apple and tomato. Burger options range from your Classic Burger to a White Chicken Chili Burger. Yum! You then have your Classics, Shack Favorites and Gill & Fins. Those popular menu items include their Blackened Meatloaf, Cod Dinner and Buffalo Mac and Cheese. Did you read that right? I said Buffalo Mac and Cheese! Do I honestly need to say anything else? To finish off their menu, you can’t forget about soups and salads. My personal favorite, the Steak Salad comes with grilled and slice sirloin served over homemade French fries on top of Sam’s Salad. You read that right, French fries on top of a salad, and they are amazing! This salad gives you that perfect balance between wanting to remain healthy with the salad, but everyone wants to least one or two fries to splurge on, am I right? Other salads include Turkey Cobb Salad, 54 degree Wedge and a popular Cranberry Chopped Salad. Are you hungry yet?
While I have experienced Copper Blue many times I decided another wouldn’t hurt, right? I have tired quite a few of the menu items that I mentioned above, but during this trip I decided to go with the steak salad. I told you it was my favorite! The steak is always perfectly cooked just the way you like it, the tomatoes are cut just right, the ranch dressing is always to die for and the French fries just make the meal complete. In addition to my salad I also had a house roll, which is always a perfect addition to any meal, especially a salad. Honestly, I was so excited to eat my salad that I completely forgot to take a photo of it. How many times have you heard that? Someone excited to eat a salad!? I also want to mention Fish Friday’s, Tis the Season for lines out the door waiting for that perfect Seafood Combo. Wait no further, Copper Blue has you covered with a range of Gill & Fin meals including the BBQ Salmon, Fresh Fish, Cod Dinner and Fish Cake Platter.
While enjoying my time at Copper Blue I was able to catch up with Margo and Tim. They have such an awesome story and you can feel their passion and energy beaming right off of them. They truly love and care about this restaurant, you can see that in their body language and customer service, their employees, but most importantly, their food. Give Copper Blue one chance and I guarantee you will be coming back for more and next time bringing more of your family and friends.
