If you’ve never checked out geocaching, now is the perfect time to do it! It’s time to stop wondering and start enjoying the wonderful world of geocaching at the upcoming Freedom GeoTrail event!
What Is Geocaching?
Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting activity, which involves searching for hidden objects and containers by using GPS coordinates that have been posted on a website. The goal is to use those GPS coordinates in an attempt to find the hidden item at that location. Sounds like fun right? Well, it is, and there are hordes of people who regularly participate in sponsored geocaching events. In fact, there millions of geocaches hidden around the world and some of them are probably near you right now.
Where Is The Next Geocaching Event?
The next event is called the Freedom Geo Trail 2015 and it consists of several scavenger hunt locations called Geocaches. Over the course of this 97 mile trail, you will experience some of the history of the Underground Railroad and the American Civil War. And much of this trail runs along the picturesque Ohio River.
When Is The Freedom Geo Trail Event Being Held?
The Freedom Geo Trail 2015 event is being held on April 24th-26th and is being kicked off with a huge launch event in south-west Ohio. Rain or shine event central will be open:
- Friday: 10am-4pm
- Saturday: 10am-4pm
- Sunday: 10am-4pm
The event central location is being held at Hauserman Park / Green Kayak – 200 Front St. New Richmond, OH 45157, which is on the historic New Richmond Waterfront. All participants must have a Geocaching.com account. You can Click Here to register for a free account. This event marks the 150 year anniversary to the end of the American Civil War and promises to be an event to remember!

AFK Geocaching is promoting and sponsoring this event and is pleased to have the Clermount County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau as the main event host and one of the trail sponsors. Geocaching and Freedom Geo Trail 2015 will be fun for the whole family, a group of friends or as a corporate event. This is an opportunity to get outdoors and relax while staying active and learning about the history of our country. You will have the opportunity to explore one of the main hubs of the Underground Railroad and the region that played a huge role in the American Civil War. All while enjoying the tranquility and beauty of the area.
