Recap of 2015 Club Nationals: USRowing in Clermont County
When looking for area attractions in Clermont County, there is nothing finer than the USRowing Club National Championships on Harsha Lake. If you missed out this year, you’ll have another chance in 2016 when the Club Nationals return to Clermont County.
“The event at Lake Harsha this year was a great success,” said Event Manager AJ Dominique. “It was great to see Clermont County really come out and support the rowing community. We look forward to doing it all over again next year.”
Vesper Boat Club Wins Big at the 2015 USRowing Club Nationals
The Colgan Cup made its debut this year, and it’s only fitting that Philadelphia’s Vesper Boat Club was the first to hoist this prestigious award. In Sarah Marshall’s coverage of the event for USRowing, she quoted Vesper Program Director, Sean Clarke as mentioning that the Colgan family are some of the Vesper’s biggest supporters.
Vesper won the total team points (423 points), 32 medals in total and 14 gold medals, making it a stupendous outing for Philadelphia. The team also won the Marion D. Ventura Women’s All-Point Award with five gold medals and 206 points.
The New York Athletic Club claimed the Sulger-Barnes Men’s All-Points Award with 219 points, three gold medals and 14 medals overall.
About The Event
The 2015 Club Nationals saw a total of 1,342 entries with 697 men’s entries and 645 women’s entries. The top states represented were New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Florida. Thirty-four champions were crowned during an event that spanned five beautiful days. One of the largest summer boat racing events in the nation, the regatta featured youth, collegiate and adult teams. There were more than 5,000 spectators in attendance to watch and cheer on these great events, and the participation of the entire area was full of excitement and a massive, storied love of the sport.
Clermont County has a long history with boat racing. Harsha Lake also hosted the USRowing Youth National Championships (1995–2010), the National Collegiate Rowing Championships (1983–1996), the Cincinnati Regatta, the Cincinnati High School Invitational, the Head of the Hidden Dragon and the Midwest Junior Rowing Championships.
